Equine Assisted Services
Programs Designed Around Each Participant
Mounted and unmounted experiences use the human-horse connection to motivate achievement, build confidence and support individual goals.
Mounted Activities
Mounted Equine Assisted Activities can influence equilibrium, balance, reflexes, coordination, posture and confidence. Lessons incorporate stretching, relaxation and strengthening in an engaging environment.
Unmounted Learning
Equine Assisted Learning can help participants develop self-awareness, sensory regulation, communication, self-discipline and concentration through leading, grooming and other ground-based interactions.
WAYS TO PARTICIPATE
Programs for our community
School Partnerships
CANTER partners with Cochise County public school districts. Schools provide transportation while CANTER provides trained horses, PATH-certified instructors, horse handlers and side walkers.
Private-Pay Classes
Saturday group sessions are available for individuals who provide their own transportation. Scholarships may be available for participants experiencing financial hardship.
Silver Saddles
Mounted and unmounted classes for adults age 60 and older offer opportunities to ride, lead, groom and connect with horses. Scheduling depends on program availability.
HAND Program
Helping America’s National Defenders has served active-duty and retired veterans coping with traumatic brain injury or post-traumatic stress. CANTER hopes to expand future classes to veterans and first responders with physical or emotional disabilities.
Horse Conditioning
Experienced volunteers help keep CANTER horses healthy, engaged and ready for lessons under the direction of a PATH-certified instructor.
Individualized Placement
Our instructional team evaluates each participant and recommends mounted, unmounted or blended activities based on safety, goals and current equine availability.
