Participant Information
A Welcoming Program for Eligible Participants
CANTER serves children and adults whose disabilities or special needs may benefit from safe, individualized equine assisted activities.
Who We Serve
Participants are accepted based on individual goals, physician approval, safety considerations and the ability of CANTER’s horses and volunteer team to provide appropriate support.
Accessible Participation
A nominal program fee helps offset lesson costs. Scholarships may be available so financial circumstances do not prevent an eligible participant from taking part.
HOW TO BEGIN
Enrollment steps
- Ask a physician or qualified medical provider to review and approve participation.
- Complete the participant registration and health-history forms.
- Return the completed forms to CANTER for review.
- Our instructional team reviews the information and available program options.
- An in-person evaluation helps determine the safest mounted, unmounted or blended placement.
Physician Approval
Medical approval is required before participation so the instructional team understands any precautions, contraindications or necessary accommodations.
Individual Evaluation
Every participant is evaluated in person. Placement and lesson goals are individualized rather than based on diagnosis alone.
Mounted Weight Limits
Mounted participation depends on the size and condition of available horses, instructor assessment, volunteer support and the safety of the participant and horse.
